Support for HB 1072 - Affordable Infrastructure Development

Senator Murdock,

I'm reaching out on behalf of Chatham Habitat for Humanity and Affordable Housing Enthusiasts in the State of North Carolina. I wanted to bring to your attention a bill that is currently working its way through the General Assembly. The bill, HB 1072 - Affordable Infrastructure Development, proposes a one-time, $50 million allocation of public funds to create a revolving loan fund to allow Habitat for Humanity affiliates and other eligible organizations to acquire, develop, and improve sites for affordable housing. This revolving fund would provide much-needed access to low interest financing for affordable homeownership developments.

This would have a direct and powerful impact on Robert’s Run: Chatham Habitat’s first townhome development that will include 72 affordably priced homes for qualifying families in the heart of Pittsboro, NC! The current plan is to run a Capital Campaign to raise $3 million for infrastructure, but this also requires them to reduce the number of families they serve annually to support the financial upfront costs required to get this large endeavor off the ground. HB 1072 would allow Chatham Habitat to continue serving deserving families AND afford them the opportunity to start this tremendous project without impacting any ability to provide low-rate, affordable loans to the community.

Backing this bill would make a lasting and meaningful impression on your constituents. Can we count on your support for HB 1072?

Thank you,
