What is the RV Care-A-Vanner program? RV Care-A-Vanners are volunteers who travel to a Habitat build site in their own motorhome, travel trailer, camper, or fifth-wheel and work with us for a week or more. Chatham Habitat welcomes RV Care-A-Vanners any time of year thanks to our mild climate.

Do we need construction experience? No experience is required, though volunteers with some trade background or prior Habitat experience tend to feel most at home. We provide all the tools and materials you'll need — you're welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Where do we park or camp? A few Chatham County campgrounds offer full hookups, including Jordan Lake Recreation Area and Cotten's RV Campgrounds in Moncure. We recommend checking with us on your build site location first so your daily commute is reasonable.

How long is a typical stay? Most Care-A-Vanner volunteers stay a week or more, depending on your schedule and the build's needs.

Is there a cost to participate? Nope! You're responsible for the cost of your campsite and all meals, but we won't ask for any fees to participate.

Is there an age requirement? Volunteers must be at least 16 to work on a construction site. Volunteers who are 16 or 17 cannot use power tools or work on scaffolding.

Our workforce is largely made up of volunteer labor, and our building materials are purchased using donated funds.
