our homes & communities
Habitat for Humanity houses around the world are built according to the same guiding principles
Simple
Habitat houses are modestly-sized. They are large enough for the homeowner family's needs, but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum. On average, houses built with Chatham Habitat are between 1056 to 1,100 sq. feet
Decent
Habitat for Humanity uses quality, locally-available building materials. All of our homes meet or exceed N.C. Building Code requirements.
Affordable
The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes, and no-profit loans make it affordable for low-income families to purchase Habitat houses. The average cost of a Chatham Habitat house is $65,000, with monthly payments between $460 to $595 per month.
Energy Efficient
Habitat is committed to resource- and energy-efficient building practices with the goal of conserving natural resources and reducing monthly heating and cooling costs for homeowners. The homes we build are certified by Advanced Energy’s SystemVision program, by the HBA/DOC’s Green Builders of the Triangle program, and by the Progress Energy Builder Advantage Rebate program.
At Chatham Habitat, we also build communities. This reduces the cost of land purchase and infrastructure and helps keep our homes affordable.
