100th House Campaign
Chatham Habitat for Humanity is entering the 20th year of providing affordable housing for the county’s low-income working families. Throughout this 20 year period, we have created homes with families for whom a safe and affordable dwelling would not otherwise have been possible. Using homeownership as a foundation for success in life, we require all partner families to participate in a curriculum covering issues of financial health, communication, conflict resolution, leadership development and homebuyer education. We are dedicated to building families and lives as we build houses.
The residents of Governors Club have been vitally important in making Chatham Habitat the county’s recognized leader in providing affordable housing. Many of you have served in positions on the board and various committees, worked on construction sites and provided generous funding. For all of your many acts of generosity and kindness, Chatham Habitat for Humanity and the partner families are sincerely thankful.
In celebration of our community’s deep relationship with Chatham Habitat, I am pleased to announce an initiative in which we can all take pride: a campaign to build the 100th Habitat home in Chatham County. Our objective is to raise $95,000, the amount needed to purchase a lot in Pittsboro and cost of materials to build the home. One hundred percent of the funds raised will be applied to building this house; none will be used for overhead or administrative expenses.
Located in Pittsboro, construction will begin on the Governors Club house in the spring. Bob Ligett and his crew will install joists and raise trusses. Nina Comiskey’s crew will help with the siding, and Larry Gunn will organize a group to do painting and touch-ups. I’ll be raising a hammer and hope you will come out and spend some time on the worksite as well. There is nothing more rewarding than working side by side with the partner family and seeing the house grow.
But before we get there, we need your financial help. My wife and I are giving a lot of thought to the contribution we will make to this campaign. It is a decision we will weigh carefully because we realize that the 100th partner family home is a remarkable milestone and we want to be part of this achievement. I ask that you also reflect on the importance of 20 years of service and the 100th house and make a contribution that you feel honors the magnitude of what - together - we are building. If you have questions, give me a call. As a proud member of the Board of Directors, I am enthusiastic about this mission and am happy to share my experience as a volunteer and donor.
Thank you for your most gracious support. I encourage you to be a part of our Habitat family.
